Learn the math: Comparing & Ordering Fractions with Unlike Denominators

Unlike fractions can be compared by rewriting them with a common denominator. Their parts then have equal size.

A worked example

To order 1/2, 2/3, and 3/4, write 6/12, 8/12, and 9/12. The order is 1/2 < 2/3 < 3/4.

Keep in mind while you play

A larger denominator alone does not mean a larger fraction; compare the amounts.
